Alright! Seems there is a small war brewing between the world of Dog Trainer fans. Now I'M going to start off by saying that knocking anybody's style is wack. As long as no person or animal gets hurt, keep on about your business.
I can say that Cesar Millan is my personal favorite. The psychology he offers is very valuable to not only dogs, but people. Dude keeps it real. Plus I have an affection for larger breeds. Pit Bull's are my favorite. I just hope people realize that dogs are dogs. They are not babies, children, little people or human family members. Dogs do run in packs, contrary to some beliefs that only wolves keep close. Cesar doesn't hurt the animals he helps. I've read on the web that some people believe that Cesar is mean to the animals off camera. WRONG. Some people think that his show implies that problems are dealt with in half an hour. Do these people not see certain dogs/cases get treatment at Cesar's clinic for up to 3 months? Thanks Cesar. Stay on the air as long as possible.
Victoria Stilwell... I appreciate what she does. Like Cesar, she is kind on the eyes for television land. There are a few things that I don't quite understand about her methods. I've caught the show a few times, and it took full concentration to learn her methods. She doesn't talk to the camera as much as Cesar. I appreciate all dog trainers, but it's kind of hard to watch Victoria. To be honest, she kind of annoying. It's weird to hear that coming from a guy who loves British accents and long ponytails, but I also flip the channel when "It's Me or the Dog" comes on. I'll watch some more so I don't develop a horrific negative attitude towards her.
I love Cesars show and to tell you the truth, Stilwells methods are pretty halfassed to me. Stuff like banging pots to teach and lying down on the ground, not to mention -turning your back on a Rottweiler- to teach a dog obedience? Thanks, but no thanks. Cesar, you rock. Other trainers who imply that his methods are inhumane are just looking to slander him to make themselves look better. Fortunately, not everyone buys into that.
ReplyDeletevictoria stilwell is way better than ceaser millan. she uses positive methods but ceaser uses negarive methods. i love victoria's show.
ReplyDeletevictoria stilwell rox!!!!!!
I think some people have it in for Cesar Millan because he is a rags to riches type story and because he doesn't have as such, a formal qualification that other trainers might have. I have also read on the web, him taking flack because he has celebrity clients. So what?
ReplyDeletePersonally I like the guy and I think anyone who says his methods are inhumane, need to think a little bit about the dog in question. Is it more humane to hae them freaking out and out of control? He has a TV show for petes sake! Do you think if what he was doing is in the slightest bit inhumane, that it would be broadcast? People also claim that his methods 'shut dogs down' and the problems resurface at a later date. The only reasons the problem may resurface is if the owners go back to their old ways and stop treating their dog like s dog, and go back to treating it like a baby again.
As for Victoria Stilwell, no doubt her methods do work, but I don't like her manner. I think she is very condescending and puts her clients down in fromt of the nation on TV.
For me both trainers methods work and when dealing with my dog, I'll prbably use a combo of both methods to try to deal with any issues.
But if I had to pick it would be Cesar all the way, Stilwell is more annoying than Supernanny and her voice and miserable ass face bug the crap out of me. I know who I'd look to given the choice if my pooch was unruly.
100% disagree with u. just cause her voice is annoying 2 u doesnt mean shes a bad trainer. ceasers voice is more annoying than victorias. personally i think victoria stilwell is a better trainer than ceaser millan. 4 example, if a dog is aggrisive, victoria gives the dog confidence. she lets the dog see that the other dog means good things. that is genious!(however u spell that)ive seen like all of her episodes. every time i watch dog whisperer, ceaser just either hits the dog or do that retarded alpha roll or whatever that is or he just tortures the poor dog by giving it a hard leash jerk and choking it 2 death. that aint coolL:P victoria stilwell says that those kind of gesturs are threatining and the dog will redirect that aggresion 2 u. thats why he gets bittin. hes such a retard:P VICTORIA STILWELL RULES CAUSE SHES AWESOME LIKE THAT. CEASER DOESNT HAVE THAT AWESOMENESS.
ReplyDeleteI hate ceaser it seems like some kind of crulty to dogs go do hold down a cat by the neak.If you ask me ceaser is a jackass.
ReplyDeleteThen you truly do not understand his methods. If you watched his episodes or read his book. There is no cruelty in them. The "hit" is actually a touch. His methods actually mirrors the behaviors a pack of dogs would behave with each other (or how the pack leaders would react to the pack). He teaches from the dog's point of view which makes sense. This is why he can control 40+ dogs at once (shown in his dog psychology center) which would be unlikely using Stilwell's methods. Also I found it highly unprofessional that she actually said she was "God of dog training."
ReplyDeletei find it unprofessional that he does that stupid alpha role. victoria said in one of her latest summer episodes (the r.v. one)that alpha rolls arent affective at all cause it can force a dog to bite. it also makes the dog feel threatend and makes the problem worse. it shows that the owner is a bully. victoria is right 1000000% cause thats why ive seen ceaser get bitten. he sucks and he deserves 2 get bitten. he doesnt know what training is all about.
ReplyDeleteyeah, victoria is accually involved with paws atlanta (a no kill shelter) and rescue dogs.i bet ceaser doesnt do any of that stuff. victoria, u rock!!!!!!!!!! luv u !!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI started with two unruly beagles and now have seven dogs in my pack. All started out with problems and now are well ballanced dogs. They live mainly in the house and we have no issues. All of us walk around town off lesh 4-5 days out of the week. I used to be realy hard on my beagles and even hit them when I got frustrated. Now I know that does nothing. Can you guess which trainer I learned from?

I don't know if they are just part of the family or if I am just part of the pack.
I've noticed Victoria has started using some of Cesar's methods. She's now getting even better results. You will notice that she will avoid using Cesar's terminology but will say basically the same thing. She will things like the dog can since your "mood" or "feeling" your "frustration" but she will not call it your "energy". She will also say things like the dog is confused, overexcited, obsessed, but won't say the dog is not "balanced".
ReplyDeleteShe is even starting to correct some of the dogs and coming into contact with them, or as Cesar would say "touching them". And it works for her too!
What methods? I've seen all of her episodes &she's never used ceasers methods.
ReplyDeleteYeah she's never used ceasers methods. In fact she's against his dumb mthods.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch victoria stillwell, and then I found out about cesar millan! I love his whole attitude towards dogs, and how he understands their needs and psychology.
ReplyDeleteWhen i watched victoria again after seeing cesar, i saw that although her methods sometimes work, they are the 'training' type of methods that dog 'trainers' use.
This is NOT what cesar does as he says, he is getting the dogs to be balanced, not training hem to sit, stay etc.
Her methods, such as using loud noises, the 'ah-ah' sound, is just another training method to stop the dog doing what it is you dont want.
I saw an episode where she was introducing two dogs, and the dog completely pulled her over to the other dog, and they had a little scrap!
this shows that she is not in control of the dog the way cesar is of his dogs.
Love u Cesar!
Wish Caesar was in Australia 100% of the time, you guys are so lucky in America to have him. He is the best in my book and is the only one who's advice is helping my German Shepherd dog's severe phobia!
ReplyDeleteCesar Milan %100000000000000!!!! He is the best there is and the best there will be. His methods are based on naturalistic ideals, he believes in humans taking the role of alpha dog. By doing so he controls the dogs and corrects them in the same way that an alpha dog would in the wilderness. His methods are not cruel, he uses these naturalistic methods to rehabilitate dogs and this is something people need to understand.I personally like Stillwell as well, but her methods not always obtain the desired results. I just finished watching an episode of "its the me or the dog" and she was trying to control the aggressive behavior of a Pit bull against other dogs, and she lost control of the dogs. Absolutely nothing happened, she did nothing for the poor owner. Her methods are just inconsistent, all she uses is positive reinforcement, which Milan uses but when needed. She hands those treats out like if it was Halloween. I feel that many of the people that do not like Milan feel this way because they don't like his nationality. People!!! Hes Mexican, so what, it means nothing. Hes a great guy and is very talented!!! It made me very upset that someone would make the comment "hes a wetback, the US should deport him". Such immaturity. Guys, be more analytical on how animal nature works. Hes been much more successful because he has approached these issues by using naturalistic methods. This is how things would happen in the wilderness. Again, hes the best there is!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many accusations posted against Cesar, but still he is more popular than Victoria. He talkes to each owner in a simple clear way, and mkes people feel confident that they can take control over their dogs. I'm a dog walker, everyday I deal with many dogs, different personalities. Definitely if a dog bites me for no reason, I cant ignore it or give him treats. I like Cesar methods, it helped me with all dogs that I walk. We will never know who is the best, unless we actually ask the dogs. But you see that Vistoria's and Cesar's clients are happy most of the time
ReplyDeleteWhat can I say Victoria Stilwell is HOTT!
ReplyDeletewww.onlineuniversalwork.com
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see Victoria deal with a pissed off 180 pound Rottweiler like Ceaser did. That would be the true test; But I think Victoria is smarter than that.
ReplyDeleteVictoria is very intelligent, as well as her amazing physique. I applaud her wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, she consistently comes up with some very creative solutions, constantly thinking outside the box, she is a champion for animal rights activists everywhere. I believe that there has to be "balance" in the world as well, thus she is the example of the extreme positive type, opposite to psychopathic, i.e. (saw it on animal cops) put their dead dog in an ice cream box in the freezer in NJ... for like 6 months or more.. wtf.. anyway.
I relate to Ceaser's methods most of all because he recognized the natural instincts in any quazi sentient being, as you all have pointed out. Thus the name "Whisperer". The way the man calms down his "Red Line" cases is super natural. Bringing tears to peoples eyes, he's saved numerous families from making the regretful decision of euthanising their beloved animals.
Can't say I've seen Victoria have the same impact.
I'm a huge fan of Cesar. He gets results and quite frankly a lot of what he says is simple common sense. Why are you babying your dog? Why are you letting that snippy little brat of a dog get away with biting everyone even your children, just because it's cute. Take control! Don't give him a damn piece of chicken so he "associates good things with you" or to get him off the couch so you can sit down, yourself. Do you kick the mutt when you walk by? Then what bad is he associating with you. These dogs aren't demonstrating fear reactions, there demonstrating dominance. He's not saying you scare me, he's saying "I didn't tell you to move. Go sit down. No not here...over there.". And lying down to make yourself more "interesting" so that your dog will come to you? Can we say no respect?
ReplyDeleteI have two large breed dogs; A 100 lb. chocolate lab and a 65 lb chow/rottie mix. I am, by the way a soft spoken, 5 foot, 110 pound female. Both of my dogs are balanced, well mannered and happy and that's totally due to using Cesar's methods. On one side of our fence we have a dog aggressive mixed breed owned by our neighbor who has practicaly torn through our fence to get to my dogs, on the other a yappy, spoiled dog that barks ALL THE TIME and "fence races" the entire it's outside. My dogs completely ignore them, looking to me for direction. I never had to teach my dogs to "watch me", by the way, they do that on their own. Because I'M in control. Niether of the neighbors dogs, comes when called , while both my dogs come with a simple smooching sound from me while I'm sitting on my back deck watching them play 6 feet below in the backyard. When we go to the dog park, my dogs play politely with other dogs coming to check with me every so often. Dog parks are overrun with dogs that are inbalanced, by the way, so be prepared to pay attention to your pooch and intervene if necessary, either by removing your dog from the situation or running interference before a scap breaks out. I'vee seen dogs that obsesssively guarded it's family rather than play and some that were openly and obviously agressive to other dogs at the park because it was scared to death and the owners seemed totaly oblivious, coddling and telling him to play nice like he was a two year old on a play date. Scary. When it's time to go, they return to the same smooching sound and sit to be leashed and taken out of the park. No rolling around on the ground to be "more interesting". And certainly no "bribing" with treats. They are earned when you are safely in the back seat of the car and sitting quietely. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Victoria is a hack, she good at what she does, which is TRAINING dogs. I've used a couple of her methods when teaching my dogs basic commands. However, a RESPECTFUL dog that TRUSTS YOU is an OBEDIENT dog and Cesar teaches respect and trust. They know that if I'm there, I'm going to handle any situation, so they don't have worry, they only have to be dogs.
Cesar all the way.
ReplyDeleteI would pay hundreds of dollars to see Victoria Stilwell try to 'train' the Red Zone dogs that Cesar has. I watched her top 10 most difficult dogs, and I was almost laughing at the cases she called 'difficult.' At number 5 or 4 was pugs that ate poo. Would that ever be on Cesar's most difficult dog list? Not in a million years. Truth is, Victoria is a trainer who fixes minor problems in dogs, where Cesar isn't a trainer, but rather a dog psychologist who rehabilitates dogs.
Most people think it's cruel to dogs and their pampered pooches will be scarred by Cesar's method. I can say that they aren't throughout my experiences with my Pomeranian. I use Cesar's methods all the time, and I don't see him cowering in fear from me. No, instead he readily greets me with a wagging tail in the morning, is a more balanced and obedient dog, and a more happy dog.
Kudos to you Cesar, and keep doing what you do.
Although I do not own dogs myself, I have watched both shows and I would say overall Cesar Millan is more a "dog" person than Victoria. I do think that most people will never have to be as physical as cesar since a lot of the cases he works on are very aggressive. By following his advice from Day 1 the situation will never escalate.
ReplyDeleteMinor behaviors can be learnt through positive re-enforcement which by the way Cesar actually practices by giving affection at the right time rather than treats. This, to me makes more sence. Also I have never seen a dog actually gravitate toward Victoria like they do to Cesar even immediately after the corrections. If a dog is really "fearful" after a correction it will definitely not sit calmly by his side. Victoria's methods to me, make a dog less DOG and more MECHANICAL. Cesar actually establishes a bond with his dogs. I think anyone who has ever actually seen him run with his pack cannot deny what a moving and awe-inspiring experience that is.
Victoria and Cesar have both good heart and good intentions but yes, i like Cesar's way better. How Victoria knows the dogs are actually happy?! Happy doesn't mean balanced. Cesar treats the dogs like his children not like a machine like Victoria. He's not cruel, he's just being firm.
ReplyDeleteWhat was the most difficult case Stilwell handled?
